Year 12 Mathematics NCEA 2 Syllabus

Since 2003, Year 12 students have been studying a syllabus which is assessed against achievement standards. This syllabus was part of the National Certificate in Educational Achievement (NCEA).


In mathematics the syllabus for level 2 was divided into nine topics, three of which were internally assessed and six assessed in a single external examination at the end of the year.

From 2012 this structure has changed. The new NCEA 2 syllabus now comprises 14 Achievement Standards made up of three external standards and eleven internal achievement standards.

The Achievement Standards now examined in NCEA 2 Mathematics are:
